Clinical Section (Reproductive Medicine):
This is headed by Dr Shaheen Zafar and Dr Shershah Syed. These senior consultant gynaecologists received training from the United Kingdom and have decades of experience in Reproductive Medicine and Assisted Reproductive Techniques.
Dr Shaheen Zafar was a leading member of the team which succeeded in achieving the first IVF baby of Karachi and the first ICSI baby of Pakistan. Working with a full team of other consultant gynaecologists, clinical coordinators, and specially trained nurses and paramedics, they provide the best quality of healthcare one can receive.
Dr Shershah Syed is a renowned Gynaecologist of Pakistan, and is also well known internationally. He is a former President of the Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Pakistan. He is working hard to decrease the rate of maternal mortality in Pakistan. His special interest is in treating obstetric and gynaecological fistula.
Dr Nighat Shah is a consultant gynaecologist who has been associated with SIRM since its inception. In addition, she is affiliated with the Aga Khan University Hospital as a consultant. She is also the Secretary General of the Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Pakistan. She has a keen interest in Reproductive Endocrinology.
Dr Lubna Durrani did her Fellowship in Gynaecology in 2009. She has been working at SIRM ever since with Dr Shaheen Zafar. Her special interest is in fertility. She has over 10 years of experience in Gynaecology.
Dr Sehar Seemee is a Gynaecologist working in SIRM, with a special interest in fertility.
Three senior urologists are available to provide services for male infertility.
Dr Aziz Abdullah is a senior urologist who has been providing care for male factor infertility and assisted reproduction for over 15 years. He is head of the Department of Urology at the Liaquat National Hospital. He specializes in all aspects of female urology.
Prof Ahmed Fawad is a well known urologist who has been associated with the management of male infertility for more than a decade. He is a Professor of Surgery at Ziauddin University medical College.
Dr Obaidullah is a well known urologist with an experience of 8 years in the field of urology. He has a particular interest in male infertility and andrology.
Embryological Section:
Prof Serajuddaula Syed, a renowned histopathologist of Pakistan, has taken full embryology training in a world renowned centre in Jordan and is now leading this state of the art embryology lab. He has developed his team of Embryologists and Andrologists.
The Andrology laboratory is equipped with a computerized semen analyser, which is the first of its kind in Pakistan.
The Embryology laboratory has top of the line equipment with anti-vibration table and HEPA filter system for clean and purified air circulation with positive pressure inside the laboratory.
The Biochemistry laboratory is equipped with the most modern hormonal assay analysers which provide results within two hours.
Ms Shumaila Siddiqui did her MSc in Biochemistry from Karachi University in 2000. She did her initial training in Patel Hospital. She is working with SIRM since its inception as an Embryologist. She was trained directly under the supervision of Prof Serajuddaula Syed.
Operating Room and Recovery:
Prof Syed Tipu Sultan has more than 40 years of experience and is an internationally known figure in the field of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. He is heading the department of Anaesthesia with his team member Dr Safia Zafar Siddiqui and well trained paramedics and nursing staff. At this moment, he is serving as the Principal of Bahria University Medical College. He is the Patron of the Pakistan Society of Anaesthesiologists.
Dr Safia Zafar Siddiqui
is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anaesthesia, Surgical ICU and Pain Management, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Civil Hospital, Karachi. She has over 20 years of experience in Anaesthesia, and she has a special interest in pain management.
A well equipped, sophisticated operating room with HEPA filter and positive pressure air circulating system is supported by a high dependency unit of recovery zone for maximum safety of patients when they undergo procedures under general anaesthesia.
Imaging Diagnostics and Doppler Studies:
This department is headed by Dr Chand Bibi Sultana, who is a UK trained senior Sonographer. She has more than 20 years of experience in the field and has been heading the department in Atia General Hospital for over two decades.
Dr Fatima Ashfa is a Sonographer at SIRM.
